This work is about the adaptation and transformation that all living beings experience at every moment. If time is not linear, the past, present, and future do not exist as separate layers, but as an interwoven conglomerate of memories. The shared memory that began when ancient fish evolved into four-limbed tetrapods and crawled onto land, and later into humans and other animals, continues in this very moment through processes of evolution and adaptation. At every moment, organisms adapt to their environments, and the memories of these adaptations accumulate and are transformed within the organs of the body. It is through this constant exchange that the identity of living beings is formed. Yet environments that are difficult to adapt to leave deeply imprinted traumas, and when these traumas surface, they can affect future generations and sometimes the entire organism. Today’s climate crisis likewise creates conditions that are difficult for life to endure, leaving profound scars within the evolutionary memory. Ultimately, human beings, like all forms of life, are not confined to the categories we have named “human,” “cat,” “dog.” Life is an ever-changing, indefinable flow, and different species are not isolated entities but exist as one vast current, continuously changing and interconnected.

이 작품은 모든 생명체가 매 순간 겪고 있는 적응과 변화에 관한 이야기다. 시간이 선형적이지 않다면, 과거·현재·미래는 분리된 층위가 아니라 서로 얽힌 기억의 집합체로 존재할 것이다. 고대 물고기가 네 발을 가진 테트라포드가 되어 육지로 기어오르고, 다시 인간이나 다른 동물로 이어지기까지 축적된 공통의 기억은 지금 이 순간에도 진화와 적응 속에서 이어진다. 매 순간 생명체는 자신이 처한 환경에 적응하며, 그 적응의 기억은 축적되어 몸의 기관 속에서 변형된다. 이렇게 이어지는 끊임없는 교환이 생명체의 정체성을 형성한다. 그러나 적응하기 어려운 환경은 깊이 각인된 트라우마를 남기며, 이 트라우마가 표면으로 드러날 때 미래 세대와 때로는 개체 전체에까지 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 오늘날의 기후위기 역시 생명체가 감당하기 어려운 조건을 만들어내며, 진화의 기억 속에 깊은 상흔을 남긴다. 결국 인간을 비롯한 모든 생명체는 우리가 ‘사람’, ‘고양이’, ‘개’라 부르며 구분해 온 범주를 넘어서는 존재다. 생명은 끊임없이 변화하는 규정 불가능한 흐름 속에 있으며, 각기 다른 종들은 단절된 개체가 아니라 동시에 변화하고 연결된 하나의 거대한 흐름으로 존재한다.
